this whole thing is a reference to chapter 38(?) right after kakashi tells team 7 hes recommended them for the exams and naruto hugs him. i havent been able to find it since, but i saw a translation one time where he said something like “get off! this is embarrassing!” (most translations ive found since just say “stop it” or whatever). so now this feels a little nonsensical lol. point being, considering his childhood, i could definitely see naruto taking that reaction to heart :^(
